Richard Attias, Founder of the New York Forum and Chairman of Richard Attias & Associates, opened the New York Forum on May 22. You can read the transcript of the speech in full below, or download here.
The world is poised at a difficult moment. The enormous economic crises and strains resulting from the financial debacle of 2008 are past, but much of the world continues to stumble through a period of uncertain growth. The reality that we’re living in what some strategic thinkers call a “VUCA world” – where the constants are volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity – is increasingly clear.
The New York Forum was created as a CALL TO ACTION with the conviction that business models and the touchstones of leadership should be reinvented. We are happy to see that our conviction expressed in successive New York Forums in 2010, 2011 and 2012 has become a theme of large gatherings of business and political leaders.
We extended The New York Forum to the fast-growing, rapidly transforming continent of Africa starting in 2012, where our commitment to action has proved critical in the development of concrete roadmaps and solutions for governments and businesses.
Our hope is that a worldwide mobilization will produce some concrete results. The New York Forum Institute will continue to launch initiatives and to bring attention to communities that need support to avoid exclusion from a global world.
As an ideas laboratory, a global influencer and creator of initiatives, our dream is to be a pioneer. We offer you multiple platforms to help to make the world a better place to live, to give a real hope to the next generations and to reinforce your leadership.
In short, in our role as global influencers, we are doing our part to inspire positive change.
